From Classroom to Policy Room: Why Africa Needs Teacher-Strategists

May 12, 2026 0 496

I didn’t plan to enter education; it truly feels like education chose me. From gathering children around me as a little girl to teaching across classrooms, to consulting in boardrooms in different African countries, I’ve lived the system from the inside out.

What I’ve come to see is this Africa doesn’t lack teachers, it lacks educators who can think, speak and act as policy makers. Real change happens when we build capacity, focus on outcomes, align resources and execute deliberately not Isolated efforts.

Governments must transition top educators into advisory roles where classroom realities inform national decisions. Educators must position themselves into policy rooms through thought leadership, strategic partnerships and collaboration.

After decades across different “room,” Classrooms, Conference rooms, Training rooms, Seminar rooms Boardrooms, Strategy rooms, Workshop rooms, coaching rooms, mentoring rooms, Development rooms, Business rooms, Innovation rooms, Leadership rooms and Living rooms.

Now I am taking intentional steps into the Policy Room where classrooms become national strategy.
